Switching from Workiz
Switch from Workiz to Hewer
Export your records from Workiz, drop the files into Hewer and check what came across. The first company to run on Hewer came over from Workiz with this same import.
What people worry about
Switching is a pain. Here’s what actually happens.
“I’ll lose my client list.”
Your clients come over from the spreadsheet (CSV) your old system exports. They are matched by phone number, so the same person is never added twice.
“I’ll be starting from an empty screen.”
Jobs come over too, each tied to its client and keeping the job number from your old system, so the history is there on day one.
“The price keeps creeping up with add-ons.”
Hewer is one plan with a public price and no feature tiers. The only thing that moves the bill is how many people log in.
“Getting out will be a fight.”
Month-to-month, cancel any time. Your clients and jobs can be downloaded as spreadsheets from Settings whenever you want them.
How it works
Four steps, in your own account.
Hewer recognizes Workiz exports from their column headings, so there are no questions to answer for them.
Export from Workiz
Export each list you want to bring as a CSV file: clients, jobs, payments, estimates and timesheets. You don’t need all five, and you can add the rest later.
Drop the files into Hewer
In Hewer, an admin opens Settings → Data import and drops in all the files at once. Import clients first, then jobs, then everything else, because payments and timesheets look for the jobs they belong to.
Check the matches
Each file is recognized on sight and labelled with what it is. After the import, every file shows how many rows came in and how many were skipped, with the reason for each skip.
Done
That’s it. Running the same file again is safe: clients already in Hewer are skipped or have only their blank fields filled in, and anything you edited in Hewer stays as you left it.
CSV files, up to 8 MB each. A file going through the column matcher can hold up to 20,000 rows; split bigger exports into parts.
Rather not do it yourself? Onboarding is included: we move your clients and jobs across and set up your branding, for every company.
What comes over
- Clients
- Name, phone, email, address, city and ZIP. Matched by phone number, so a client already in Hewer is never added twice.
- Jobs
- Tied to their clients and tagged with the Workiz job number, which is how payments, estimates and timesheets find them.
- Payments
- Rows marked Paid, matched to their job, with the job’s balance updated. Voided and unpaid rows are skipped.
- Estimates
- Matched to their job. A won estimate marks the job approved; a lost or declined one is recorded as declined.
- Timesheets
- Matched to your team members by name and to the job by its Workiz number. Add your team in Hewer before importing these.
What doesn’t
- Photos and file attachments
- Text message and call history
- Signed contracts, invoices and other PDFs
- Line items on a job (a job comes over with its total price)
Keep your old account until you’ve checked everything you need is in Hewer.
